NANAIMO – Tony Harris, BC Liberal candidate for the upcoming Nanaimo by-election, says the city needs a new intensive care unit and expanded cancer treatment now, and if elected he will fight to get this done.
Harris has been out in the community talking to voters and working hard on ideas that he intends to make happen once elected as Nanaimo’s provincial MLA.
Tony says Nanaimo’s current intensive care unit simply can’t meet the demands of a growing community, and the province needs to act.
“For far too long, we’ve been waiting for the green light on a new intensive care unit in Nanaimo from Victoria,” said Harris. “We’re the largest city on Vancouver Island and one of the fastest-growing in BC, and health care investment needs to keep up.”
Tony says the city also needs a fully integrated cancer treatment centre that will not just benefit Nanaimo, but also the rest of the Mid- and North Island.
“It’s not acceptable that cancer patients in Nanaimo requiring radiation treatment have to drive over the Malahat to get their care in Victoria,” said Harris. “We are lacking the level of health care services we require in Nanaimo, and I intend to address this if I am fortunate enough to represent our city as your MLA.”
A long-time champion for health care in Nanaimo, Tony currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation. Tony is asking for your vote in the upcoming by-election because he believes Nanaimo has been taken for granted for too long and deserves its fair share from Victoria.
