Freedom of Information documents recently obtained by the BC Liberal Opposition indicate that since February to November of 2018, Nanaimo lost a net 30 child care spaces for children under six, putting whether the NDP child care plan is working for Nanaimo into question.

While some families are benefitting from child care credits, the challenge is more complex than just cost. We are hearing from hard working Nanaimo families that solutions also must include the creation of more spaces and the training and recruitment of more accredited child care providers. Simply put, Nanaimo deserves a better plan – a plan that works for our community.

For my thoughts on real solutions for hard working Nanaimo families: Tony Harris says while government touts improvements to child care, more needs to be done to help Nanaimo families
